Multilayer blown film extrusion line: how Tecom helped 2 Gamma expand and innovate

Case Study

When family-owned 2 Gamma set out to expand beyond agricultural films, it needed a multilayer blown film extrusion line that could support rapid product development, handle recycled materials, and scale with future demand. Tecom answered that need with a lab-scale, five-layer extrusion line designed for flexibility, performance, and sustainability. Tailored to fit a compact footprint, the system enabled 2 Gamma to accelerate innovation, enter new markets, and produce high-barrier films with both virgin and recycled resins.

Client background: three generations of multilayer extrusion expertise

2 Gamma traces its roots through three generations of polymer film expertise, originally under the IPM banner. Over decades, the company mastered food-grade, industrial and agro films, earning a reputation for reliability and craft. More recently, it has transformed from a single-product specialist, known for its zootechnical barrier films, into a diversified supplier, driven by a commitment to quality and attentive service.

“Our story is a family saga in plastics, and Tecom was present in the first chapters. We wanted it to be with us in the sequel as well." Marco Forzano – CEO, Sales & Plant Manager of 2Gamma

The challenge: expanding 2 Gamma's plastic blown film capabilities

As 2 Gamma charted its next growth phase, four requirements emerged: first, the ability to develop a wide array of films with distinct formulations; second, a mid-small footprint line for laboratory trials and sample runs; third, adaptability for rapid product pivots and small-batch trial; and fourth, support for a sustainability initiative to reincorporate in-house production scrap into high-barrier films. Balancing those demands on one versatile platform would be a rigorous test of any extrusion partner.

Tecom's multilayer extrusion expertise fuels 2 Gamma's evolution

The answer lay in Tecom’s proven track record in multilayer blown film extrusion technology. Two decades earlier, IPM had invested in Tecom three-layer lines, and 2 Gamma’s team trusted the same engineering excellence for their next generation. Tecom’s philosophy is simple: more layers equal more flexibility, and each layer is an opportunity to optimize material performance. Working closely with 2 Gamma’s engineers, Tecom tailored the line’s head design, screw profiles and layer distribution, integrating corona treatment and dual automation to meet every specification. A further advantage: all extruders use the same size, streamlining spare-parts inventory and simplifying maintenance.

Implementation & integration of a flexible multilayer extrusion system

From initial design workshops to on-site commissioning, Tecom’s process ensured seamless integration. Every technical decision, layer count, head configuration, screw profiling, was made in partnership, and comprehensive operator training followed installation. The new five-layer system now sits alongside 2 Gamma’s existing 7, 9 and 11-layer lines, completing a unique global portfolio of multilayer extrusion technologies spanning every layer count.

Results & Benefits from advanced blown film production

Since start-up, 2 Gamma has launched multiple blown film products, including barrier and agricultural films incorporating up to 30/40% internally recycled resin. The company has unlocked industrial film applications, reconnected with former clients, expanded into South America and strengthened business in Europe by introducing new materials produced on Tecom’s 5-layer. Internally, maintenance teams appreciate reduced downtime with faster changeovers and fewer spare part variations. Crucially, the closed-loop recycling model means no reliance on post-consumer or post-industrial resins, only high-grade in-house regrind processed through a highly adaptable multilayer extrusion line.

Future Outlook: 2Gamma's position in the multilayer blown film market

Today, only 10% of 2Gamma’s sales come from the domestic market. With demand growing internationally, the company is well-positioned to serve new applications, from flexible packaging to technical films, using Tecom’s modular multilayer extrusion platform and deep expertise in blown film extrusion.
Thanks also to Tecom’s tailored solution, 2Gamma is perfectly positioned to meet that demand, whatever form its next innovation takes.
